Title

Public Service Stories: Honoring People Who Make a Difference

Description

The “Ask Me Why I Care” project was co-directed by Dr. Mary Hamilton and Ms. Rita Paskowitz and funded by the College of Public Affairs and Community Service, University of Nebraska, Omaha (UNO). The project involved faculty of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The purpose of the project is to show today’s youth that government offers rewarding opportunities to tackle the most daunting issues in our society, all while making a difference in people’s lives.

The “Ask Me Why I Care” collection includes 23 video recordings of interviews with public servants about their work experiences, as well as suggested assignments for students. The collection is presented in four groups each of which has been uploaded into related VMPS galleries:

Gallery B1 Security, Fire and Emergency Management - Public Service Stories, Transportation and Emergency Services;

Gallery B4 Public Safety and Law Enforcement - Public Service Stories, Public Safety;

Gallery C2 Public Health and Healthcare - Public Service Stories, Health and Human Services; and

Gallery F2 Financing our Common Purposes - Public Service Stories, Public Budgeting & Financial Management.

The stories have been archived by the UNO College of Public Affairs and Community Service and with the Virtual Museum of Public Service.
