An account of the resource
Yosemite National Park is an American national park located in the western Sierra Nevada of Central California, bounded on the southeast by Sierra National Forest and on the northwest by Stanislaus National Forest. The park is managed by the National Park Service and covers an area of 748,436 acres (1,169 sq mi; 3,029 km2) and sits in four counties: centered in Tuolumne and Mariposa, extending north and east to Mono and south to Madera County. Concerned by the effects of commercial interests, prominent citizens including Galen Clark and Senator John Conness advocated for protection of the area. A park bill was prepared with the assistance of the General Land Office in the Interior Department. The bill passed both houses of the 38th United States Congress, and was signed by President Abraham Lincoln on June 30, 1864, creating the Yosemite Grant.

Description
An account of the resource
<em><strong>"I was having a better time at my job than were those of my peers who had opted for private practice. Life as a public servant was more interesting. The work was more challenging. The encouragement and guidance from good mentors was more genuine. And the opportunities to take initiative and to see real results were more frequent." </strong></em><br /> <br />- Sandra Day O'Connor, U.S. Supreme Court Justice<br /> <br />The United States’ civil justice and investigative services give people a fair chance to receive justice through legal processes. The U.S. is renowned for having one of the most sophisticated criminal justice and investigative systems in the world and it is remarkable how this system operates successfully across a country as large and diverse as the U.S.. One of the keys to this success is a balanced and carefully ordered hierarchy: several different federal courts control issues relating to federal law and each state has its own set of courts that can adapt to the needs of its people for criminal justice and investigative services. Because of the civil justice system, our cars are safer, the environment is cleaner, and foods and medicines are safer.<br /> <br />The U.S. criminal justice system comprises courts, corrections, defense attorneys, prosecution and law enforcement. The courts are supervised by judges who are responsible for ensuring that the law of the land is correctly interpreted and applied. Corrections oversee convicted offenders. Defense attorneys represent the accused against prosecutors, who represent the state or federal government. Prosecutors are lawyers whose task it is to review evidence brought to then by law-enforcement, they then present that evidence to the court concerning a particular trial. It is the role of the law-enforcement officers to take reports of crimes that occur in their precincts, gather and protect evidence, arrest offenders and give testimony in court during trials.<br /> <br />(Source: National Center for Victims of crime: The Criminal Justice System <a href="http://www.victimsofcrime.org/help-for-crime-victims/get-help-bulletins-for-crime-victims/the-criminal-justice-system"><strong>http://www.victimsofcrime.org/help-for-crime-victims/get-help-bulletins-...</strong></a>)

<h3><strong>Public Service Through the Spoken Word (G-4)</strong></h3>
Description
An account of the resource
Radio Free Asia also has a website that serves as an alternative way of reaching its potential audience. This website offers enriched content and detailed coverage of all of the key issues ongoing in Vietnam, with a primary focus on democracy, civil society and human rights. Although Vietnam has one of the region’s highest Internet penetration growth rates, the nation blocks the Radio Free Asia website and thereby prevents its approximately 40 million Internet users from accessing a source of independent and vital information unless such users circumvent the censorship by using secure browsers and virtual private networks (VPNs).
Based on Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia (FRA), was established in the 1990’s, with the aim of promoting democratic values and human rights, and diminishing the Communist Party control of China. RFA is funded by a grant from the U.S. Agency for Global Media (formerly the "Broadcasting Board of Governors"), an independent agency of the United States government. In 2017, RFA and other networks, such as Voice of America, were put under the newly created U.S. Agency for Global Media, an independent federal agency. RFA is the only station outside of China that broadcasts in the Uygur-language. As a result, Radio Free Asia has been recognized for playing a vital role in exposing Xinjiang re-education camps. The New York Times considers RFA to be one of the few reliable sources of information about Xinjiang.
RFA broadcasts news and relevant information to the nations of China, Tibet, North Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Burma.
RFA adheres to the highest journalistic standards of objectivity, accuracy, and fairness, as defined in the code of ethics for its reporters and editors. In countries and regions with little or no access to accurate and timely journalism, as well as alternative opinions and perspectives, RFA’s nine language services fill a crucial gap. RFA aims to retain the greatest confidence among its audiences and to serve as a model on which others may shape their own emerging journalistic traditions.
RFA is a private, nonprofit corporation, funded by the U.S. Congress through the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which is an independent federal government agency that oversees all U.S. civilian international media. In addition to providing oversight for RFA's radio broadcasts and the like, the USAGM works with RFA to ensure the professional independence and integrity of its journalism.

Description
An account of the resource
Senator Robert F. Kennedy, in a speech to a city club in Cleveland, Ohio, bemoans the futility of violence and how it erodes love and connection between human beings. The Senator criticizes the country's tolerance and desensitization towards acts of violence, as well as the institutional failures that do not address public needs adequately, due to the heinous dynamism of racism. Within his "A Call to Stop Violence," speech, Senator John F. Kennedy calls on Americans to look for true justice, and to strive for reaching commonal goal that all Americans can agree with, invoking a sense of unity and cohesion among Americans without capitalizing on the contretemps of others.

An account of the resource
<p><strong><em>The initial reactions to the Peace Corps proposal are convincing proof that we have, in this country, an immense reservoir of such men and women-anxious to sacrifice their energies and time and toil to the cause of world peace and human progress.</em></strong></p>
<p>By President John F. Kennedy 1961</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The Peace Corps finds its roots In 1960, when students of the University of Michigan were challenged by then Senator John F. Kennedy. In an effort to promote peace worldwide, he urged them to serve their country by working and living in developing countries. </p>
<p>Since its official founding in 1961, over 200,000 volunteers have served with the Peace Corps in 139 different countries. Work areas include Education, Health & HIV/AIDS, Business Development, Environment, Youth Development, and Agriculture. Working in small villages and towns all over the world, not only do volunteers help people rebuild themselves and their community, but they also create a positive image of the United States abroad.</p>
<p>The Peace Corps’ mission is as follows:</p>
<ol><li><em> Helping the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women.</em><em><br />2. Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.<br />3. Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of the Americans.</em></li>

<h3><strong>Diversity in Public Service (D-1)</strong></h3>
Description
An account of the resource
<strong><em>"If we cannot now end our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity."</em></strong><br /> <br />- John F. Kennedy <br /> <br /> Age, economic, educational, ethnic, gender and racial diversity are important issues playing out at every level of the civic sphere. Changes in demographic characteristics of populations necessitate appropriate diversification in the public service workforce in order to build a more egalitarian society. Wherever possible, administrators in every public organization responsible for the delivery of public goods and services should ideally reflect the composition of the populations that they serve. The same applies to firefighters, and law enforcement officers and other front-line employees in the public service such as nurses, teachers, and public transportation employees.<br /> <br />Reflecting the diversity of the population in the public workforce communicates to the public that their interests are being understood because people very much like them will be the ones assisting and interacting with them regarding their concerns and applications for public service. There is a general belief that people feel most comfortable with people just like themselves and expect to be better understood by their own kind.<br /> <br />Another important reason for diversity in public service is that it imports diverse perspectives on issues and therefore diverse approaches to problem solving and conflict resolution. Diversity in public service also fosters collaboration and cooperation across the different groups that comprise the population.

He studied for two years to complete the course. In 1998, he took the opportunity of the process of recruiting Navy chaplains and was commissioned in the same rank in 1999. After commissioning, the Navy assigned him to the United States Marine Corps as the first Muslim chaplain to serve with the United States Marine Corps. In this position his main task is to teach about Islam so that an understanding of the religion is built up across the US military. On his appointment as a Muslim chaplain, Saiful said, "When I found out that they were looking for Muslim chaplains, I wanted to become one. I was already involved in religious activities inside the Pentagon (Defense Department headquarters), establishing Friday services and other such things. In the Navy his rank is Commander and he is known as Chaplain Saif.
