The National Trails Awards is one way American Trails Leaving New York State Parks recognizes the exemplary people across the landscape of America who are working to create a national system of trails to meet the recreation, health, and travel needs of all Americans. Awards are given out every two years during the American Trails National Symposium.
The Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation has mapped over 2000 miles of designated trails in State Parks and Historic Sites. Accurate and up to date maps are available for public use. These maps include Park facilities such as parking, park offices, nature centers, campsites, and boat launches in addition to the location, name and distance of each designated trail in the park. - See

Empire State TrailsHiking Trails: One of the best ways to learn about wildland fire is to hike through an area that has recently burned. Numerous trails run through the area in Point Reyes National Seashore that burned during the Vision Fire in 1995. These visitors are walking through a stand of regenerating Bishop Pine trees.
