Walter Reuther, American Labor Union Leader

Title

Walter Reuther, American Labor Union Leader

Description

There is no greater calling than to serve your fellow men. There is no greater contribution than to help the weak. There is no greater satisfaction than to have done it well.

Walter Reuther

Walter Reuther was a highly influential American Labor Union Leader of the 20th century.
From the Walter P. Reuther Library website, "Walter P. Reuther was one of America’s great labor leaders. He was also living proof that one person can make a difference. Reuther was president the United Automobile Workers union (UAW) between 1946 and 1970. Under his leadership, the American and Canadian members of the UAW obtained their fare share of the enormous wealth they produced and were able to restore dignity to the industrial work they performed. Reuther’s work, however, went well beyond contract negotiations and union organizing."
